Three popular methods for removing wine labels

1. The hot water method

  • Fill a sink or large container with hot water. The water should be hot enough to loosen the adhesive, but not boiling.
  • Add 1 cup of baking soda and a few drops of dish soap to the water, ensuring that the mixture is thoroughly dissolved.
  • Submerge the wine bottle completely in the water for 10-30 minutes. The label should begin to lift or wrinkle on its own.
  • After the soaking time, use a flat-edged tool, such as a plastic scraper or an old credit card, to slowly peel the label off the bottle. Be careful not to scratch the glass!

2. The oven method

  • Preheat your oven to 225-250 degrees Fahrenheit (107-121°C).
  • Place the wine bottle on the oven rack and heat it for about 5-10 minutes. This will soften the adhesive on the label.
  • Once the time is up, put on an oven mitt and carefully remove the bottle from the oven. Be cautious, as the bottle will be hot!
  • Use a flat-edged tool to gently peel the label off the bottle. If the label doesn't come off easily, return the bottle to the oven for an additional few minutes.

3. The hairdryer method

  • Plug in a hairdryer and set it to the highest heat setting.
  • Hold the hairdryer about 2-3 inches away from the label and direct the hot air over the entire label surface for a few minutes.
  • When the label starts to lift, carefully use a flat-edged tool to peel it off the bottle. Be patient and avoid rushing, so you won't tear the label.

Please note that while these methods can work for most wine labels, some adhesives may be more stubborn than others. In such cases, a dedicated adhesive remover like Goo Gone can come in handy to help remove any remaining residue.
