    - A glass cutter

    - A heat source (such as boiling water or a candle)

    - An ice bath

    - Gloves (for safety)

    - Sandpaper (something coarse like 60 or 80 grit should do)

    Step 2: Prepare Your Workspace

Choose a well-lit, flat, and stable surface to work on. Lay down some newspaper or an old towel to catch any broken glass and make cleanup easier.

Step 3: Score the Wine Bottle

Before cutting the bottle, you'll have to create a scoreline, which is a thin line that will determine where the bottle will break.

    1. Put on your gloves for safety.
    2. Hold the glass cutter in one hand and the wine bottle in the other.
    3. Press the glass cutter firmly on the surface of the wine bottle where you want to make the cut.
    4. Keeping your hand steady, rotate the wine bottle while maintaining consistent pressure with the cutting tool. Your scoreline should be a single continuous line all the way around the bottle.

Step 4: Apply Heat and Cold

To create a clean break along the scoreline, you'll need to alternate between heat and cold to cause the glass to contract, making it easier to separate.

    1. Put on your gloves for safety.
    2. Fill a container with ice water and set it aside.
    3. Light a candle or prepare boiling water for your heat source.
    4. Hold the wine bottle horizontally about an inch above the heat source, making sure the scoreline is directly over the heat. Slowly rotate the bottle to evenly apply heat to the entire scoreline. Hold the bottle over the heat for around 5 minutes.
    5. Once the scoreline is sufficiently heated, carefully dip the wine bottle into the ice bath, making sure to fully immerse the scoreline. You may hear a crack or popping sound as the glass contracts. If not, don't worry; the process isn't complete yet.
    6. Repeat the above steps a few more times or until the bottle separates along the scoreline. Be patient and don't try to force the process; the glass will break when it's ready.
    Step 5: Sand the Edges

Once the bottle has separated, you're left with two pieces of glass with sharp, uneven edges. It's important to smooth these out, especially if you plan to use the cut wine bottle as a glass or vase.

    1. Put on your gloves for safety.
    2. Use coarse sandpaper to sand the edges of the glass until they are smooth and free of jagged edges.
    3. For a more polished look, you can use a finer grit sandpaper to further smooth the edges after the initial sanding.
